In 1803, President Thomas Jefferson commissioned Captain Meriwether Lewis & William Clark to traverse, explore, and document the vast uncharted lands west of the Mississippi River. The assigned Expedition, called "Corps of Discovery", laid the foundation for the westward expansion of the United States.

Clay Jenkinson, the narrator and historian that appears throughout the DVD as the guide appeared on the television programs The Today Show, Ken Burns’ Thomas Jefferson, Politically Incorrect, and is the star of the nationally broadcast radio show THE NEW JEFFERSON HOUR.
