In
1803, President Thomas Jefferson commissioned Captain Meriwether Lewis &
William Clark to traverse, explore, and document the vast uncharted lands west
of the Mississippi River. The assigned Expedition, called "Corps of
Discovery", laid the foundation for the westward expansion of the United
States.
200
years later, The Communication Corps along with noted historian and author Clay
Jenkinson, has traveled the modern-day route of the Lewis & Clark Trail and
compiled one of the most extensive documentaries to reflect the accomplishments
and achievements of the Expedition.
This
DVD takes viewers along the modern-day trail and gives a first-hand
account on a wide variety of topics from historical accuracy of the locations,
events and names, to the health, wealth and idealism of the original people of
the Expedition paralleled to our present social, economical and explorative
issues.
Rediscover The Corps has been selected by the National Council for the
Lewis & Clark Bicentennial as an official documentary product to celebrate
the bicentennial of the Lewis & Clark Expedition. This Council has been
established to commemorate
the achievements and exploits of the Lewis & Clark Expedition over the next
three years with coordinated activities, festivities, and exhibits throughout the United
States.
The Rediscover
The Corps: Jefferson's Enlightenment (A Lewis & Clark Docu-Series) DVD
encompasses
45 - 90
second short stories along with an informative 52 minute documentary, 15 minute
“making of” film, 40 minutes of additional interviews featuring
Roger Wendlick, Amy Mosset, James Holmberg, Ev Albers, and a host of Lewis &
Clark "buffs" from across the continent, and numerous references to the actual
Lewis & Clark journals.
Clay
Jenkinson, the narrator and historian that appears throughout the DVD as
the guide
appeared on the television programs The Today Show, Ken Burns’ Thomas
Jefferson, Politically Incorrect, and is the star of the nationally broadcast
radio show THE NEW JEFFERSON HOUR. He is also the author of numerous historical
books.
The
goal of the DVD product is to enlighten, entertain, and educate the vast
audiences of American history and Lewis & Clark enthusiasts to the great
accomplishments the Expedition achieved in helping to shape the United States.
